I have always used a sword warrior. why? because tactics and swordsmanship go hand in hand, very reliable and powerful, many excellent defensive skills and ripostes will pulp any melee attackers you face or cause them to miss, miss, miss.

Since Factions got release, I am even MORE swords, dragon slash is simply amazing, a true elite for the sword at last...as Hundred blades (see sun and moon slash in factions, only andren based) was only ever an elite to stop it being used with IW, and consequently wasn't very good. and skull crack..i dislike.

There is no best Imo, it all depends...A proper sword/tactics warrior will beat a axe warrior and a hammer warrior, a hammer warrior will tourture casters with endless knockdowns/interupts and collosal damage, a frenzied axe warrior will impale anyone not able to defend themselves.

I tried all 3 a year back, and went sword, you should test them all out too, it's a personal choice as much as anything

Only faster than hammer, wand/staff, and bow. Its the same as axes.

attack speed of sword = axe speed

Save up on your collector items and carry one of each. Aside from that it's largely personal preference. Hammers have a few minor drawbacks to take into consideration, but they are all viable.

Depends on PvP or PvE..
In PvP axe and hammer is used, but in PvE, you'll have to try all 3. If you like the Fantasy or Adventure kinda feel, I would use sword. Sword's also good for players in the early stages cuz of the Sever Artery+Gash combo, but as you get to the later stages where you get Elite Skills, the axe & hammer shine though...
Swords became a lot better (Especially in farming) with the recent buffs to riposte and deadly riposte.

If you're totally depending on adrenaline, I would suggest that you use the axe.

The hammer hits the most damage out of the 3, but it's a bit slow and you can't use a shield anymore, but there's still nice big-damage combos lol.
Devastating Hammer, Crushing Blow, and Heavy Blow (Which requires weakness on target which is given by Devastating Hammer) with Irresistible Blow and Mighty Blow put into the chain however it works for you.

I went through all the missions with a hammer. Worked quite nicely for me. I didn't really try any of the others because they cost more :P You can pick up a good hammer cheap.

I use all 3

sword for pve though missions etc
axe for solo'ing the mountain trolls or ettins (cyclone axe and live vig and vig spirit=pwnage)
hammer for pvp

Swords swings every 1.33 seconds.
Axes swings every 1.33 seconds.
Hammers swing every 1.75 seconds.
Daggers strike every 1.25 seconds.

The latter two are two-handed though.

Out of the two, I prefer swords. I like axes because they have some nice skills, but one of the main reasons I used it: Eviscerate. W/ the 2 extra adrenaline nerf, I've gone back to my old sword combo. Final Thrust is just great and it is a non-elite, leaving room for an elite. High adrenaline, but it deals double damage when you would want to finish off an opponent: at below 50% health. Axes are still great though and we'll see how it plays out w/ all the Factions skills and elites.

Why aren't hammers dominant in PvE? KD, etc. isn't as esssential in taking down one wimpy opponent, whereas a human player is more formidable.

Faster than what? Unless I'm terribly misinformed, sword and axe have the same attack speed.
